What started out as a tool to pay with the rules of a game created by the company Valve, Garry's Mod has become a huge success and a special space all of its own. In this sandbox game you have the option to do anything you want. There is no story or plotline from the game itself, you can create anything that you want. If you wish you can join one of the public servers to see what has been created by other people and explore their virtual worlds.
When you first enter the game you are shown a quick tutorial about how to move around, create what you want to and where to find the items, characters and everything that you need. This is a pretty easy system to pick up and the guides is very well done so you can just get straight into the world building action.
One of the best things about this game is the Gravity Gun, where you can use this to move any item or character anywhere in your space. Just click and drag it around, this is a really nice tool and easy to use. There is also a database of items that uses Source, a creative engine that Valve used to make their games. This database is full of almost every item you can think of, but you can also add to the list and bring in your own unique items.
There are also tools for you to take 2 completely different objects and blend them together, this allows your imagination to run wild and you can make a half flowerpot half chair design and then sit any avatar you want on it in a Dali inspired house. While a little out there as an idea it is certainly possible in this game.
If you are not in a creative mood you can go into the places that others have created, many of these are actually complete games that you can go play. From racing games to shooters and much more in between. You just need to join one of the open servers and explore. There is also of course the option to place your own creations and games here for others to enjoy too.
All of these options are available for you, and Garry's Mod is available on Steam for you to download. Unfortunately this is not a free game, and the price at the time of writing is $9.99. However with over 6 million copies sold and such a huge global audience it is definitely a worthy investment.
With an incredible range of options, multiple places to find items and areas for your own creations and a massive community Garry's Mod has everything you could want.
