The original Zen Koi game was quite impressive as it gave players a relaxing yet engaging experience that they could enjoy on the go in the comfort of their mobile devices and, as it turns out, Zen Koi 2 has been designed with the same goal in mind. The game offers all the features that the original had to offer but it comes with a variety of new features that make the experience more enjoyable for players.
Zen Koi 2 doesn’t really have a proper tutorial sequence to speak of but, fortunately, the lack of a tutorial isn’t that big of an issue in this particular case since the game’s core mechanics aren’t particularly complex and don’t require that much time to master. There are even various dialogue boxes that’ll help teach you the basics so, as long as you remain focused, you’ll be able to get the hang of your basics in mere minutes of playing.
Onto the gameplay itself, Zen Koi 2 builds itself on the fundamentals laid out by the original so, if you’ve played the first game in the series, you’ll find quite a lot of similar elements here as well. The goal is to take control of a Koi and then eat the various eatable critters that are swimming around the pond. Once you’ve eaten enough critters, you’ll be able to unlock a greater area of the pond and, as you unlock more of the pond, your Koi will proceed to grow as well. Your goal is to grow the Koi so much that it eventually turns into a dragon and, at this point, you can move onto your other Koi and work on transforming them as well.
The thing that makes Zen Koi 2 so interesting is the fact that there are multiple different kinds of Koi breeds in the game and it’s quite fun to try and collect all of them. Every time your Koi mates with another one in the pond, their offspring will have a color palette depending on the colors of the two Koi who mated with one another and, as mentioned earlier, it’s a pretty fun activity to try and collect all the different colored Koi.
In terms of visuals, Zen Koi 2 doesn’t cease to impress at all because the game’s artwork is top notch, the Koi look highly realistic, the textures are extremely well detailed, the colors are vibrant and, all things considered, there’s a lot to like about the way the game looks.
Zen Koi 2 is free to download and play but it has micro-transactions through which players can acquire bonus in-game content with real world money.
